Trip to Northern Jordan - Part II

***Continued from Part 1***

We arrived in Jerash:

There it is!

We entered after buying tickets from a middle-aged bureaucrat and his young son in an otherwise-forgotten office in the back of the bazaar in the visitors' center.

South Gate

Entering the ancient city through Hadrian's Arch

The Hippodrome -
an oval-shaped arena that once sat up to 1,500 spectators

Inside the Hippodrome

Once, the stands were filled with men, women, and children roaring at the gladiators...

...now, the only spectator is the occasional lizard.

The modern city of Jerash

Temple of Artemis and roman columns

Walking to the Temple of Artemis

The Oval Plaza - surrounded by columns

Climbing up the Temple of Artemis

The view from above

While we and the other tourists were walking along the main roadway through the city...

...we met a new friend.
This lost goat was crying for its flock, which were with a beduin farmer further down the road.

***Part 3 to come.  Next stop, Ajloun.***
